I'm sitting here in our empty condo. It's pretty strange. D is coming back from a trip to his office to have lunch with his boss and pick up a few last things. The movers came this morning and loaded the semi within a few hours--they will meet us on Friday in Mad-Town. That gives us just enough time to clean the floors before the furniture is set down. Did I mention we have beautiful hardwood floors on the main level and laminate on the lower level? We are also having the carpeted bedrooms cleaned because the former owners had cats and I'm allergic. I was able to convince D to pay someone to do the carpet cleaning. :-)
The fridge and freezer are very nearly empty, we did a great job eating up all the random stuff that was in there over the last few weeks. We will bring a few things with us in a cooler so we don't have to start completely from scratch.
We are staying with my aunt and uncle in Mad-Town tonight. Then tomorrow morning at 11:00 we have our closing and we will become owners of our first real house! The condo has been a really good practice run--being responsible for the inside of the place and upkeep, etc. But we've never had to mow the lawn, shovel the sidewalks, clean the gutters, tend to the vegetation...and I think for the most part we are looking forward to that. Okay, some of that. And the trade-offs will be totally worth it...no more hearing the neighbors or worrying about them hearing us (except during our wild parties, of course!). It will be fabulous to truly have a space of our own.
(psst, I also get to shop for some new stuff, esp. area rugs for those gorgeous floors! Woo hoo!)

Goodbye, McK
Well, today was my last day at my old school. Luckily, I have been taking a box or two home every day for the past couple of weeks, otherwise the rest of the stuff from my classroom would not have fit in my car. It was a bittersweet day. I managed to laugh instead of cry at the staff meeting where we say goodbye to people who are leaving.
Tonight is the traditional end-of-the year party at a teacher's house...this one can get pretty late and crazy. I'm getting a ride with a friend since my usual chauffeur is out of town...no worries about overindulging, then.
I'm not feeling much yet, but I have a feeling that sometime tonight I may get a little emotional. This school was my home for 5 years and I've made some really great friends there. I think that working with difficult kids tends to make people use lots of humor and pull together to cope with the things we can't change. Luckily, Mad-Town is a city that people actually want to visit, which makes the likelihood of seeing folks all that much greater. CR just doesn't quite have the same drawing power, I have to say.
The next two weeks are going to be completely crazy. Once we are actually moved, I think things will be a little easier. It's almost like the lead-up to my wedding...everything is so planned up until that one big day, when the moving truck pulls away empty from our new house. After that, the summer is a big blank canvas and I will be able to breathe again. Until then, I will have a couple of farewell laughs with my McK family.

A new start
I'm starting a new blog to chronicle our move and adventures in Mad-Town. The moving truck will be at our condo two weeks from today, so let the countdown begin!
